Bristan Group - Race for Change Challenge. More than a race - It's a mission for change

Race Rules

Overview: Teams will travel in threes without flights, using only a limited budget and a world map. Teams cannot use their phones or the internet and must rely on public transport and their own resourcefulness. There is a mandatory checkpoint that must be included within the route and the first team to reach the final destination wins.

Eligibility: Two of the three team members must have a diverse characteristic (be that gender, ethnicity, neurodivergence, disability, sexuality). All team members must hold a valid passport.

PR & Social Media: All team members must be willing to feature on social channels to promote the initiative.

No Flights: Contestants are forbidden from flying and must use land or sea transport such as trains, buses boats or two legs. Team members should always consider safety and must not hitch hike.

Limited Budget: Teams will be given a set budget. If you run out of budget your team will be eliminated and it will be your responsibility to fund your remaining travel home.

No Phones or Internet: Teams are not allowed to use their own mobile phones or access the internet for navigation or communication.

Manual Navigation: Teams must use a physical world map to navigate between checkpoints.

Kit List: A packing list will be provided ahead of the race. Participants will only be able to take a small under seat bag with them. We will provide storage of an additional bag for the duration of the race for a change of clothes for the final celebration dinner.

Asking for Help: While teams can't use their own devices, they are not prohibited from asking strangers for directions or directions on a stranger's phone, though they cannot ask someone to use their phone to help them.

Game Spirit: We recognise that it would be easy for teams to contact friends and family for assistance but we expect participants to respect the spirit of the challenge.

Safety: A GPS device and basic mobile phone will be provided for emergencies. Team members must remain together at all times.

Liability Waiver: Participation is at team’s own risk. A waiver form must be completed prior to the race commencing. Participants must have their own travel insurance.

Meet the Teams

The Odd Trio - Ian, Samantha & Courtney

Why we decided to take part in Race For Change

"We are excited to take part in Race for Change because it aligns with our values. We're excited to take on the challenge , step outside our comfort zone, and demonstrate what can be achieved when diverse people come together with a shared purpose - with a healthy competitive spirit along the way!

Alongside the challenge, raising water for water scarcity matters to us. By taking part, we hope to raise awareness of this important issue."

Diverse Currents - Ben, Jade & Travis

Why we decided to take part in Race For Change

"As a team, we’re taking part in Race for Change because we believe in the power of unity and purpose. Each of us comes from different backgrounds and has faced our own challenges, but together we want to prove that diversity is a strength, not a barrier. This race gives us the chance to raise awareness about water scarcity — an issue that affects millions — while showing that people from all walks of life can come together and make a real impact. We’re here to challenge ourselves, support one another, and lead by example. Most importantly, we want to inspire the younger generation to believe that change starts with action, and that when people unite around a cause, incredible things can happen."

Inspired by Masterful Guesswork - Emma, Lavina & Trevor

Taps on Track - Marja, Lewis & Humza

Why we decided to take part in Race For Change

"Each member of our team has a personal motivation for wanting to take part in this unique and exciting challenge, be it to prove something to themselves or those around them, or just to support an incredible charity, shining a light on inclusivity and the threat of water."

Pochin - Catherine, Jacob & Jack

Why we decided to take part in Race For Change

"The Race For Change is a chance for us to get our team together from across our Pochin branches, take part in a unique challenge and raise awareness and money for some great causes."

Navigate-HERS - Fiona, Becca & Victoria

Why we decided to take part in Race For Change

"Taking part in this challenge as a team of female construction workers, really helps shine a light on diversity in our industry. We hope it inspires other girls who have the same dream that they can do it to! It’s a fantastic cause and a way for us to give back, spend time with good people, and challenge ourselves. It will also enable us to raise vital funds for a dear friend who is bravely fighting cancer with so much dignity."

Oz, Marianna & Andrei

Why we decided to take part in Race For Change

‘’As a team, we complement each other’s strengths: one of us is highly organised and strategic, another excels at thinking on their feet and connecting with people, and the third keeps morale high and ensures we stay focused. Our diversity of perspectives and experience helps us collaborate effectively, make quick decisions, and adapt to whatever comes our way.

We are motivated not just by the adventure, but by the purpose behind the race, raising awareness of water scarcity, inclusivity, and supporting vital charities. We aim to embrace every challenge, respect the communities we encounter, and act as ambassadors for the causes the Race for Change supports, bringing energy, determination, and creativity to every stage of the journey.’’

The Calm Crusaders – Nigel, Kelly and Gary

Why we decided to take part in Race For Change

‘’Our group of businesses are really focused on creating change through charity and community and the group want to do new things to increase awareness and attract support. The race is a fantastic and different way of doing this and to know the Cycle charity is supported is also a big factor in the decision as well.’’

Our charity event partner - the Cycle

''Guided by our mission we provide safe and sustainable WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) services and improve menstrual health conditions. These vital necessities are the building blocks to gender equality. We believe gender equality is the key to a thriving world.''
