Across the world, contractors are on the front line in the safe and efficient delivery of water to homes and businesses. To recognise their work, the World Plumbing Council (WPC) devised World Plumbing Day, which since 2010 has been an annual fixture on the calendar.

#BRISTAN BULLETIN: WORLD PLUMBING DAY

1. CHOOSING THE RIGHT PRODUCTS

Specifying the right products for each project is critical to ensure that the best possible experience is achieved, but with water delivery technology advancing all the time it can be difficult for contractors to stay on top of the latest developments.

When it comes to selecting products, understanding customer needs is key but also don’t be afraid to get in touch with manufacturers to get support on product features and specifications. After all, they are experts and might be able to recommend a better option that is more fit for purpose.

Where possible opt for products from companies that have a reputable brand and a commitment to excellence. At Bristan, our customer contact centre is the largest of its kind within the UK bathroom industry, offering post-installation support to tradespeople and end-users.

    2. QUALITY MATTERS

Poor quality products can lead to faults that leave customers with a negative impression of the work and reputation of the plumber. That’s why it’s always important to opt for quality products from respected manufacturers that undergo rigorous quality testing.

Bristan is continually looking for ways to improve product quality. For example, in response to installer demands for a more robust and durable backnut solution, we recently replaced plastic with brass. Having found that installers are often frustrated with the strength of these nuts when tightened, as they are more likely to break, brass delivers a much stronger product that’s built to last.

    3. GETTING SOCIAL

Forward thinking contractors are increasingly getting involved with social media in order to raise the profile of their businesses. Engaging with audiences online requires investing the time to develop and maintain a social media presence and producing regular content.

For example, use videos and posts to promote your installation skills, sharing images of completed installations and videos showing how and why a solution was deployed.

Once you’ve got this content, try engaging with manufacturer brands such as Bristan, who can share pictures and videos of your work to an even bigger online audience.

4. SAVING TIME

Following feedback from the industry, manufacturers are increasingly looking to create pioneering, new product designs that meet the need for quick and easy installation. The objective is to reduce the time it takes to install kitchens and bathrooms, and the number of hours contractors need to be on-site.

For example, Bristan’s new sinks range have a unique Easyfit base already pre-installed along with pre-fitted flexi tails. This means that an Easyfit tap body can be fixed to the sink with minimum fuss – simply hook up the hose tails, push on the tap and tighten the grub screw.

The aim of the day, which takes places on 11th March, is to promote the link between good quality plumbing, health, environmental sustainability and, increasingly, economic prosperity. Coming together to learn, share knowledge, build connections, the event and find opportunities to collaborate to improve the quality of, and access to, fresh water and safe sanitation.

With the big day almost upon us, leading manufacturers such as Bristan can take the opportunity to reiterate the importance of supporting contractors to do their job. With that in mind, here are some top tips on engaging with manufacturers and their products.
