Putting water efficiency first this winter

With household energy bills set to soar this winter, many customers are seeking cost-effective solutions that can be easily incorporated within the home. One of the simplest yet effective ways to reduce energy bills is to opt for water-efficient taps and showers, conserving water and energy and reducing carbon footprints too.

Did you know?

• The average person uses around 142 litres of water each day
• The average household of 2 people uses 349 litres of water each day
• The average 5 person household uses 523 litres of water each day
• Showers are the biggest water user in the house (25%) followed by toilets
• The average annual metered water bill is £427

What does that mean for customers?

Currently, all new homes must be built to a water consumption standard of 125 litres per person per day (Part G of the Building Regulations). There is also an optional Building Regulations’ requirement of 110 litres per person per day which local authorities in water-stressed areas can apply where there is a clear need — for example, in Southeast of England.

Whether you’re a housebuilder or homeowner, Bristan has brilliantly simple water-saving solutions…

Brilliant basin mixers taps

Eco-friendly, practical and stylish, our basin mixer taps are ideal for reducing water consumption in the bathroom. Many of our taps, such as the best-selling Capri, feature in-built flow regulators that can reduce water flow to as little as 3.5 litres per minute.

We also have different flow limiters to suit a variety of products, such as our flow regulators that can be fitted onto the tail of a tap. Alternatively, our tap aerators are brilliantly engineered to increase water efficiency, while offering the feel of a full flow. These can be easily installed onto a tap spout.

Simple shower solutions

With 25% of water wastage coming from showers, choosing a sustainable showering solution is the way forward for reducing household bills. We’ve developed a range of flow limiters that can be easily fitted onto our popular bar shower range. These are installed between the bar mixer and shower handset and can limit the flow rate to as little as 4 litres per minute, saving over 50% of water that would have been wasted without one.

Choosing quality products

Unfortunately, leaky taps and showers are more common in the winter months, which can result in wasting more water and money than you think. Let’s put it into perspective. On average, the cost of tap water is £0.1 per litre, and a typical leak of 10 drops per minute would waste 3 litres per day and 109 litres per month. This would result in an extra £10.90 per month on energy bills.

It’s these numbers that makes choosing quality products so important. Customers can rest assured that our brilliant taps and showers have been designed to stand the test of time, with each product vigorously tested in our in-house UKAS accredited testing facility. Our showers are tested to the equivalent of 130 years and our taps are turned on and off 80,000 times to ensure endurance. As well as this, our taps undergo high-pressure testing so we can have complete confidence that they are able to handle 25 times the standard water pressure.

Not only this, but our products come with no-nonsense, rock-solid guarantees, ranging from 5 to 10 years, for complete peace of mind.
