How to prepare your house for the cold weather

The colder months are fast approaching, and one of the most important things to remember –is to give your home a health check to make sure that it’s winter ready, before hitting the real cold snap.

A study this year revealed that being without heating or hot water ranked as one of Britain’s top winter worries. But despite this, most don’t have the cash to repair them and half of homeowners don’t set anything aside to deal with emergencies.

So we asked our expert plumbers, from the members of our Bristan On Tap Plumbers Facebook Group, and this year’s Plumber of the Year, Martin Warnes, to tell us their top tips – and we’ve put them together in a handy PDF checklist, so you never forget to health check your home again.

Here’s some of our top tips, provided by our plumber pals:

• Know the exact location of the main household isolation valves

• Safeguard the pipes

• Check the boiler is serviced – by a gas registered engineer

• Test your central heating is working before the real cold snap

• Bleed the radiators

To make sure your home is winter ready, download the PDF below for a handy print out version of our checklist!
